You should not need hundreds of reviews to start exploring a drink. Our generated scores help you compare what we know today, with the limits kept visible.
Three different questions
- Evidence score
- How much supporting documentation is attached to this product? Generated on a 0–5 scale. A higher number means broader or more recently checked documentation, not a better-tasting drink.
- Estimated taste profile
- How sweet, bitter, full, or warming might it be? Catalog estimates and description-based rules give a starting point on a 1–5 intensity scale. Value is an estimated judgment, not a measured price comparison. These are not laboratory measurements or firsthand tastings.
- Reader score
- What did people who tried it think? The average overall rating replaces the headline evidence score once two reader notes are approved. This is still a small sample, not a consensus. Individual notes remain visible.
The evidence score, out of five
- Producer documentation: up to 1 point.
- Retailer documentation: up to 0.5 points.
- Outside reviews or discussion: 0.75 per publisher, up to 1.5 points.
- A source summary with attached references: up to 1 point.
- A source check recorded within six months: up to 1 point.
The breakdown on each product shows what contributed. The total is rounded to one decimal place. Missing documentation earns no points. Search links do not count as citations. More links from one review publisher do not add points. Photos, affiliate commissions, and positive marketing words do not increase the score.
These weights are our editorial rules, not a scientifically validated model. A linked source can still be incomplete, promotional, or outdated. Source types describe how the catalog classifies a reference; they do not prove independence.
Where taste estimates come from
A catalog estimate is shown when one is recorded. Otherwise, simple phrase rules interpret descriptions: for example, “dry finish” suggests low sweetness. Each dimension shows its basis. When no relevant language exists, we show a labeled starting estimate of 3/5, or 1/5 for heat. That default is not a finding about the bottle.
When a reference supports a specific dimension, we link it beside that estimate. Without that link, do not assume the number was extracted from a particular source. Estimates can miss nuance and depend on how a drink is served.
After two approved reader notes, dimensions use the available reader ratings. Unrated dimensions remain blank. Reader opinions can disagree; the individual serving notes matter as much as the average.
Buying links and corrections
Some links may earn us a commission. Commission does not enter the score formula. Check the seller for current price, ingredients, ABV, and stock. An evidence score does not verify those details or establish suitability for your needs.
